ISO 9000:2008 The new revision 2008
The concept QMS (quality management system) is no more used in the standard but instead of it Management System.
Why change again?
The International Organization for Standardiszation (ISO) rules that every 4-6 years, the ISO 9000 series of Standards should be reviewed and upgraded to reflect the changes in the industries. The last two revisions were in 1994 and 2000. This time, it takes longer, as long as 8 years, the new version is expected to be released in October this years. Therefore, will be called ISO 9000: 2008 series
What will be the changes
The official new version has not been released yet, however, the final draft is released and certified companies, consultants and certification companies are in the process of upgrading, coaching and promoting the new version. It is common understanding that no major changes in content this time, however, there will be a major change in the emphasis for the certified organizations. The emphasis will be changed from quality system to management system, from tactical to strategic, from operational to growth.
How to cope with the new version? Organisations will have to upgrade their certificates again. But the timing can be varied, although there will be grace period of up to two years, the best way is to discuss with your certification company, or give a call to your consultant. Your consultant will help to review your exsiting System and provide service to upgrade for meeting the new requirements. Besides keeping the certificate, it's an excellent time to review your company strategy, future development, sustainabilty and profitifabilty, especially at this time of cost increase and economic down trend. Also, to see if your company is ready to go a step further to meet the ISO 9004:2008 (not only 9001). The following are the contents of the Standard:
